Hello Friends of Deer Lake.

In cooperation with Professor Daniel Walters from Nipissing University your Friends of Deer Lake committee (FODL) will be assisting in water testing for Oxygen levels and harmful Phosphorus. We are all concerned about the health of our beautiful waters. Dan and his assistant will be placing this scientific equipment on Friday July 18/2025 with the exact location to be determined by the scientific crew.

A probe will be placed in approximately 50ft of water and left there for several months while being monitored by the biology department of the North Bay University.

This probe will be marked with some sort of location marker but will not be visible at night. If you do “patrol” Deer lake in the dark FODL has marked the approximate location of this testing device on the attached map. It will be almost straight north of Mickiebish Island for those that are curious. Remember this is only for the next few months while data is being collected.

Professor Walters will also be doing a presentation at our FODL Annual BBQ Labour Day Saturday regarding the identification of Blue Green Algae, its origin and prevention where possible.  Please mark August 30/2025 on your “must attend” list for this quick seminar.

Thank you for your cooperation with Deer Lakes health and welfare!!
