As we embrace another beautiful season in the Almaguin Highlands, we are reminded of the pristine waters and the haunting calls of the Common Loon that make Deer Lake so special. Our shared commitment to preserving this natural haven is more crucial than ever.

Our not-for-profit organization, Friends of Deer Lake (FODL), relies solely on membership fees and the occasional donation to fund vital conservation efforts. These funds enable us to monitor and protect the health of our lake, including initiatives like the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey, which tracks the reproductive success of loons—a key indicator of aquatic ecosystem health . Additionally, we work diligently to prevent harmful blue-green algae blooms by promoting best practices such as maintaining natural shorelines, using phosphate-free products, and ensuring septic systems are functioning properly

Your continued support through up-to-date membership fees is essential for these projects to thrive. Even a modest contribution from each member can collectively make a significant impact.

Please take a moment to renew your membership or make a donation by e-transfer to contacts.fodl@gmail.com. You can check the status of your membership by contacting Cindy VanSickle

Together, we can ensure that Deer Lake remains a sanctuary for wildlife and a cherished retreat for generations to come.

Warm regards,

The Friends of Deer Lake Team
